In today's video, we're discussing the most recent update to the Unc0ver Jailbreak and a planned update which will include a new kernel exploit created by IBSparkes for iOS 12.1.2 all the way down to iOS 11. As you probably know, the existing iOS 11 exploits haven't been very easy to use. For one, the vfs exploit was close to unusable due to its very low success rate, and the multi_path one was much better but required a special entitlement available for Developers only. On iOS 12, the voucher_swap exploit by Brandon Azad was good with a decent success rate, but not compatible with 4K devices, so v3ntex by tihmstar was used there, which is far from stable. A few days ago IBsparkes has released a new exploit which would work on both iOS 11 and iOS 12 and it is amazingly fast and stable. The decision has been made that Unc0ver will be updated to use that one on all the compatible devices. In the video, I explain why.
See, on #iOS 12 the #Unc0ver #Jailbreak takes considerably more time to achieve the full jailbreak, and the reason for that is CoreTrust. A new mechanism has been implemented to inject the CMS blob that CoreTrust expects into the jailbreak binaries on-demand. This means that all of the binaries have to be manually signed when the jailbreak is triggered. This takes considerably more time and paired with voucher_swap which is not a fast exploit (but reliable), this makes the jailbreak process longer. By using IBSparkes' exploit, the jailbreak time is reduced because the exploit runs in a second or two, much much quicker than voucher_swap and considerably better than multi_path, vfs and v3ntex too.
The 4K devices (A7, A8, A8X) have already received the update containing IBSparkes' exploit because v3ntex was close to unusable.
