Yet another fake we debunked. A few days ago some of you sent me some links to these videos which appear to be made in a decent setup, so I decided to take a look, and sure enough, the same vile scheme, a fake safari "jailbreak" tool that asks the user to install some random App Store apps.
I've seen that before, quite a lot of times, but more than ever the YouTube seems flooded with fake jailbreak videos for iOS 10.3.x and even iOS 11. The particular channel we're debunking in this video has taken fake jailbreak videos to a new level. The setup of the video is done nicely, colorful, a decent looking desk, pretty much making it hard for the untrained eye to not believe that the video is real.
Unfortunately, if a newcomer in the jailbreak community comes across that 1 million views video, it is very hard to really say whether it is real or a hoax. The video features a big number of likes (13k) which does confuse the viewer.
To cut this short, the scheme behind this fake jailbreak is the following. The viewer is being told to access a website that has been designed to look like a jailbreak tool with very wide iOS compatibility. Once the viewer presses jailbreak, the page changes to a black screen with an oversized Apple logo and then some mangled writings. Nothing that appears written on the screen makes any sense or has anything to do with iOS, let alone jailbreaking. After a few more seconds, the viewer is redirected to a page where he is asked to install a few apps from the app store, under the pretext of the jailbreak being bundled in those apps. This is where you can clearly see the bull, as no one can bundle a jailbreak payload inside an app that is ALREADY in the app store.
One can bundle a jailbreak inside a custom app and attempt sneaking it into the app store, and it has been done before, but only with apps created by the jailbreak developer, not with apps from various games companies, and Apple took those down in a matter of hours anyways.
